A Hospital Where Compassion and Teamwork Drive True Change: Why Nurses are Choosing MiraVista

By Stand Out Truck Editorial Team | Stand Out Truck® Stories

West Springfield, MA | When you step inside MiraVista Behavioral Health Center, you don’t just walk into a hospital — you step into a community dedicated to changing lives, one patient at a time. Nestled in the heart of Western Massachusetts, MiraVista has quietly become a beacon for nurses seeking purpose, teamwork, and the rare chance to witness real, lasting progress in their patients’ mental health journeys.

Originally known as Providence Behavioral Health Hospital, MiraVista found new life in 2021 when its former parent company closed its doors. Rather than let this vital resource disappear, the state of Massachusetts turned to the owners of its sister hospital, TaraVista in Devens, MA. Their answer was immediate: absolutely yes.

Today, MiraVista operates 88 inpatient psychiatric beds and provides a robust array of outpatient substance use treatments for individuals battling addiction. In just four years, the hospital has earned a reputation for exceptional care and for fostering a workplace culture where staff feel valued, supported, and genuinely proud to come to work.

“There are no Sunday scaries here,” says Kim Lee, Chief of Creative Strategy and Development. “I look forward to Mondays because I work alongside people I truly care about — and who care about me. That sense of compassion carries directly into how we care for our patients every day.”

Why Nurses Choose MiraVista

The newest group of talented and energetic MiraVista Behavioral Health team members!

For nurses considering a step into psychiatric or behavioral health care, MiraVista offers what many hospitals can’t: the chance to see the results of their compassion and expertise firsthand. Here, patients often arrive at their lowest — and leave renewed.

“In some healthcare settings, you never get to see that transformation,” says Coreen Lord, Director of Talent Acquisition. “But here, our nurses witness hope becoming recovery. It’s powerful — and it’s why they stay.”

At MiraVista, nurses are never alone. Psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, mental health counselors, and therapists work side by side to support each patient’s journey back to stability and home.

“It truly is a team environment,” adds Alicia Morel, Talent Acquisition Specialist. “We’re looking for nurses who are caring, compassionate, empathetic — and ready to be part of a supportive, mission-driven team.”

A Nurse’s Perspective: Jeff’s Story

Jeff Carroll, Associate Chief Nursing Officer at MiraVista Behavioral Health Center

One of MiraVista’s guiding lights is Jeff Carroll, Associate Chief Nursing Officer. For Jeff, psychiatric nursing is not just a career — it’s a calling built on respect for every patient as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.

“Every day brings the chance to make a difference,” Jeff says. “Some days are challenging, but the days you see the difference you helped someone make for themselves — those days make everything worth it. And every day is different.”

Jeff’s dedication runs deep. Inspired by his mother, a social worker, and his father, who served as a Director of Nursing, Jeff grew up hearing stories about people’s resilience. Early work at a residential treatment center for adolescent boys sealed his commitment to the mental health field.

“I’ve learned the value of patience with yourself,” he reflects. “Everyone is trying to become a better version of themselves, and the ups and downs along the way are just part of that journey.”

This mindset is woven into MiraVista’s mission: meet patients where they are, help them see their potential, and honor their humanity every step of the way.

Who They’re Hiring — And the Perks

MiraVista is actively hiring Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for full-time, part-time, and per diem roles. While psychiatric experience is helpful, it’s not required — one year of nursing experience and a compassionate heart are all you need.

A Culture of Recognition — and Cupcakes

Celebration in honor of our fourth year of delivering hope, healing, and compassionate care to our community continues at MiraVista Behavioral Health Center

It’s not just the teamwork or patient success stories that make MiraVista special. It’s also the daily, heartfelt ways leadership shows staff they matter: surprise food trucks, fun swag, and cupcakes just to say, “Thank you.”

“We work hard to ensure our team feels seen, recognized, and appreciated — because they truly are,” says Lee.

The Stand Out Truck® Effect

A big part of MiraVista’s recruiting success has come from an unexpected hero: a bright, roaming billboard that turns heads across Western Massachusetts — the Stand Out Truck®.

“I remember seeing the truck parked near a competing hospital’s parking lot — it was genius!” laughs Morel. “Nurses noticed it. We’ve had candidates walk in and say, ‘I saw your ad on the truck.’ It really works.”

“It does exactly what it’s meant to do — it stands out,” Lee adds. “It gets our message where traditional ads can’t reach, and it’s a cost-effective tool that keeps delivering.”
