Geek Bro Amazing Cell Phone Repair on Boston Road

Springfield, MA – Geek Bro owner Larry Flakes knows how crucial cell phones are to his customers. For some it’s their livelihood, for others a phone holds all their memories. When a phone is damaged he knows the importance of trying to save it.

“It’s our job to be able to try and take that device and repair it, then educate them so if it happens again, they’re better prepared,” he said.

That’s why the number one thing he recommends to his customers is to back up their electronics.

“If the worst happens to your phone where it can’t be resuscitated, at least you’re in the position to restore it exactly how it was before the damage happened,” Flakes said.

Buying, repairing and restoring electronics is the heart of Geek Bro. It’s a combination of honesty and repair skills that Flakes feels will help the business continue to grow.

“We’re a repair shop that cares,” he said. “We believe that if you help someone, that’s far more valuable than getting that extra few dollars.”

It’s All in the Name

The name Geek Bro was something that simply fit Flakes.

“I’m a bit of a geek, because of my infatuation with electronics and technology,” he said. “I am that and I am a brother in every single way. The name Geek Bro is just who I am.”

Flakes spent more than a decade in automotives but has always had a passion for electronics. When the working hours required by the car business began to cut into time he needed to spend with family, he decided to switch gears and move to technology with an idea that began in 2018.

“The goal was to buy phones locally,” he said. At the beginning of the pandemic, he was able to provide cash in exchange for electronics, helping those who needed to make ends meet.

That led to his dream to open a brick-and-mortar store, providing a safe location for buying, selling and repairing.

Flakes and his fiancé searched for a year and a half to find their current location in Haymarket Square, a spot that enables them to grow and is easy to find. He designed the exterior on his iPad before the lease was signed, hoping to make it stand out with fun graphics in the window.

“It’s really been a dream come true,” he said. “We have a long way to go to get where we want to be, but we’re here.”

To boost awareness of his location, he’s advertising on the Stand Out Truck®. He spotted the truck around town and was intrigued, then after connecting with the Stand Out Truck® team he recognized all that it can offer.

“I love the concept of the truck, the advertising that is mobile. It moves, so it can be in so many different places,” Flakes said. “I’m excited to see what that’s like and what it will do for our business.”

Repair That Cares

Flakes has been certified for cell phone repair but is mindful that there’s always something to learn. “Every day you learn a little bit more and you fine tune your craft to become better. We do repairs the right way,” he said.

At Geek Bro, they repair phones, tablets, game console and more. They also sell insurance on items like Apple products, something Flakes believes can be invaluable.

He ensures that people know if there’s a cheaper alternative, being upfront with options while always remembering that he’s working on something critically important to his customers.

“We want to do it the proper way. I take my time and I make sure that I’m being careful when I’m working on someone’s phone,” he said. “That’s what we want to be is the honest repairer.”

If repair isn’t an option, he wants customers to know he’s happy to take it off their hands.

“If someone’s not in a position to repair a device, as opposed to having it sit around in a drawer, we’ll buy it,” Flakes said.

Geek Bro is located at 1754 Boston Road and can also be found at GeekBroRepair.com
