Springfield, MA - “We’re doing pharmacy work with a cause. As our business grows, we invest in the community. I was born and raised in Springfield, and as I grow, I want to make sure that I invest the right way,” shared Springfield Pharmacy Co-Owner, Tobias Billups.

Opened in June 2019, Springfield Pharmacy is a locally owned, community-based, full-service pharmacy that has demonstrated its commitment to bringing medical and pharmacy services to the community members who need them most. “We are a true retail pharmacy,” Billups stated, “but we do a lot more – with free delivery, special packaging, and engaging the community. We’re very well-rounded.” With bilingual staff fluent in Spanish, and free deliveries for prescriptions made by staff members instead of a courier service, Springfield Pharmacy truly stands out.

Working with other community partners, Springfield Pharmacy has participated and hosted food clinics, and brought medical services to marginalized and vulnerable populations.

“The key is to engage with the community. The majority of the people who walk through the door are patients coming to get a prescription. Community outreach is a large part of what we do, and then the pharmacy business takes care of itself.” Springfield Pharmacy participated in a collaboration spearheaded by State Rep. Carlos Gonzalez that also included Caring Health Center, Better Life Home Care, the Open Pantry, and Beacon Property Management to provide flu shots, COVID testing, and food distribution to the community, along with care bags, masks and sanitizer.

In addition, the Pharmacy has collaborated with about 10 other businesses to create the We Care Initiative, which provides care packages, including personal hygiene products, PPE, or food items to residents of one 1-2 low-income or elderly serving residences and facilities per month. “Some organizations are able to offer these additional benefits through grants or state funding sources. However, this effort is coming directly out of the budgets of these organizations, including my pharmacy. We simply use the opportunity to serve our community and share what the pharmacy can do for patients,” Billups explained.

Springfield Pharmacy aims to be a partner in the healthcare of the Greater Springfield community. With a second location in Holyoke opened in November 2020, Springfield Pharmacy continues to seek opportunities to fill the gaps in service to the region, especially in light of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a preferred provider for HealthNet, they are ready to fulfill prescriptions orders for patients whose options for pharmacy service recently became more limited. Springfield Pharmacy is committed to making pharmacy and wellness services accessible to community members with limited transportation and greater barriers to care.
